Welcome to Butler Memorial Park. Second day of summer and a hot one at that. +26. When we arrived there was almost no one in the park but that didn’t last long. We decided to feed them the same as last week since they enjoyed it so much. We handed out 246 Sloppy Joe’s, 348 Hard Boiled eggs, 482 PBJ sandwiches, sweet treats and 320 bottles of water. For dessert we were donated Chocolate Mouse cake for everyone. Now for the greatest part, the Wright family are back, Yes holidays are over, our favorite family who bring several containers of donuts every week. Just imagine their line up. After 3 years of being in the Butler Park every Sunday we have all become one big family. If just one does not show up they are missed by all. Everyone is asking for them.
Catherine had a steady line for the clothing, the new set up seems to be working well for her. Cam as always has a steady line for coffee and ice tea along with bibles and prayer. This community has truly come together, every week we see new friendships formed, we see people helping people. When we arrive there are helpers who help us unload, we also have volunteers from the community. Every one is welcome.
Many have asked if we ever have anything left. The answer is yes, when we do there are other areas in Edmonton where we can take the food. Example we had a surplus of sandwiches which was taken down town by Ashley to hand out. We also had extra cake that Victoria took to feed a person who is blind and another who has cancer. After rent neither have enough money for food. This group is more than just feeding homeless we help as many as we can who are in need. Nothing is wasted.
Summer is a busy time, we also need more help when volunteers go on holidays. If you have ever wanted to volunteer helping by all means please message us. We still need one more to help in the kitchen on Sunday mornings just 1 Sunday every month. We are in need of Peanut Butter and Jam for sandwiches. Hygiene products and shampoo, face cloths, socks and underwear.
